Cool weather in Yellowstone can be a mixed blessing.  The week we were there was only in the 50’s, so a lot of the thermal features weren’t fully visible due to the fog over their hot waters.  Still, the view from the new overlook is incredible!

After a gray morning, the clouds lifted and sun started to come out.  That’s not the best light for photographs, but I still go out and shoot, especially when on vacation.  Better to get a not perfect shot, than not one at all.

When we were in Yellowstone a number of years ago, the skies were a perfect brilliant blue, and the colors in the pools somewhat muted by the harsh light.  This trip was the reverse – interesting skies, lots of clouds, and great light that shows the unearthly colors in the landscape.
