As I started getting more serious about taking photographs, I started geotagging them so I could both return to the site and remember where it was! This image is from somewhere on the North shore of Oahu. As I recall there’d been a rainstorm that morning, and the waters were turbulent and muddy. The flower perfectly captured that trip – life was turbulent, yet the time in Hawaii was completely relaxed and serene.
Rain Forest Fern
Maybe it’s because I live in an arid climate, but the rain forest has always fascinated me. The lush foliage grows so fast you can almost watch it uncurl. These emerging ferns are a particular favorite – I love how the light glows through them, softened by the overhead canopy.
Lily at the Hilo Zoo
I admit it, I’m a sucker for lily ponds. I’m not sure if it’s because I really liked Kermit as a kid, or just the serenity of the scene (or maybe a bit of both). The Hilo zoo has an amazing pond, and it’s been in bloom every time I visit.
Now all I need is a frog singing ‘It’s not easy being green’!
