Friday Photo – Critters in Alaskan Waters

April 13, 2018 By Doug

On our first trip to Alaska, we visited Valdez and Prince William Sound.  It’s a real fishing town, with an influx of tourists staying mostly in RV’s and a few motels and B&B’s, that reminded us of what the Colorado mountain towns were like back when we were growing up.

We wanted to take a boat tour out into the sound, and ended up on the Lulu Belle – great boat, fun crew, and amazing sites.  Those started just as we were leaving the harbor, when these guys floated over in our direction.

Iconic Yellowstone

April 6, 2018 By Doug

A few years back my wife and I toured Yellowstone before meeting my dad for a fly fishing boat trip.  It was a beautiful afternoon, warm and sunny, with the shadows just starting to appear.  The moon came over the horizon, and this guy looked up at me – a classic Yellowstone postcard.

There were a few other people around, and some who wanted to get way too close.  I was grateful when several other folks in the crowd gently (well, maybe not that gently) asked them to back away.  Let the wildlife be wild, and get a longer lens!

Friday Photo – Hound in the Snow

March 30, 2018 By Doug

We lost Truffles this week.  He was our sweet springer spaniel, a two year old heart in a 13 year old body.  Feisty and sweet, easy going and fierce.  Our cats are sleeping on the dog bed, waiting for him to come by to snuggle, and our golden is running upstairs to find him (and then promptly forgetting about it and bringing down a shoe instead).  I’ll miss him on the cold winter days when he’s not there to warm my feet under the desk.  Rest in peace old friend, and don’t chase too many squirrels.
